After two nights
of play, the table appears almost inverted to
Rex continued
his blistering form defeating the tournament’s top rated player Tony Morris.
The game itself
could have gone either way, with fortunes changing in a game littered with many
inaccuracies and a few blunders.
In fact, Tony
had a forced checkmate after Rex blundered at Move 35, but made a critical
blunder at Move 36 which allowed Rex his own winning chance and Mate was achieved
at Move 38.
Brian also
pulled off an unexpected win in a typically asymmetric game.
After an
exchange, Martin had a knight and a bishop for a rook and some attacking
chances for Brian.
But a critical
error blundered a knight, and it the inevitable resignation came a few moves
later.
Mark came out
of the opening a piece up and with a considerable positional advantage.
However Chesley managed to force a repetition and claim a draw.
