Three games
were played tonight to complete Round 5.
The quickest
game to finish was Brian against Rex, with Rex claiming his first win over the
board in this tournament.
Capitalising on
a blunder by his opponent, Joseph Curtain reached the endgame with a rook on
the 7th rank controlling play, and a piece up.
However a
Houdini effort from Andrew meant that the game ended in an agreed draw after
pawns were liquidated and Joe’s extra bishop wasn’t enough.
Tony was in a
piece in front for the last hour or more and it was a slow grind to a win in
his game just before
