The games on
the two top board were postponed to next week.
Again Ray had
the longest and toughest game of the night.
Both players
reached the last five minutes with a queen, rook and bishop/knight plus even
pawns on the board.
Ray had the
slight edge positionally, and in the end it was Peter
who succumbed to the time pressure which affected the final moves of both
players.
Two
players notched up their first wins tonight. Daniel Clancy accounted for Daniel
Sheldon, in an upset result after Daniel S’s strong showing in the final rounds
of the Flood Cup.
Edwin
joined the tournament in this round, and played solidly to overcome Nick
Petrie.
