Eight of the nine games were played over the board, and as occurred last week, there were a few upsets.
Not an upset was an early resignation by Martin, the game over by 8:25pm.
By 8:30 John had joined Andrew Mather as an early winner, John a queen vs knight ahead near the end.
Probably the biggest surprise was Adam’s early victory against Brian.
Brian blundered a piece, and then later left his queen en pris, thus gifting Adam his first win in a rated game at the club.
When Brian resigned, Adam looked surprised, probably expecting Brian to fight on despite huge material loss, as is common in some forms of junior chess.
Another upset saw Stefan win against Joe who missed a sharp winning chance involving a rook exchange.
Ray achieved his third draw in a row, this time holding the Flood Cup champion Tony Howes in an even game in which a draw was agreed.
Joshua added up a few small advantages to achieve a two pawn advantage in the midgame, after which it was a slow death for Metin (on his own admission).
Andrew Robinson had a grinding victory against Tony Morris, finally finding a way to obtain a pawn advantage, after which white’s game collapsed.
The last game to finish saw Nathan Key reach the endgame with an exchange advantage, but in big time trouble.
The time trouble was no doubt a contributing factor as Cameron was able to use his experience to force a win in the end.
