Tony Howes struggled in the opening against Martin, and it seemed an upset win was on the cards.
However Tony defended resolutely until finally bringing the game back to an even situation and then profiting from a blunder by Martin.
As has become usual in this tournament, Tony’s game was the last to finish, although a 10:40pm finish was relatively early compared to previous rounds.
Tony wins the Flood Cup for the third time, being a previous winner in 2011 and 2013.
Martin had some compensation for his efforts winning the Handicap Trophy.
The losses incurred by Peter Hiller and Stefan Flanigan against tough opponents ensured that Martin remained at the head of the pack after the handicaps were added.
In other games, Marcus won against Cameron to ensure that he finishes in the top three.
The winner of the postponed game (Sanat vs Metin) will achieve second place and finish ahead of Marcus either on points or tie-break.
Joshua and Ray played out an even game, in which a draw was agreed to.
Brian and John finished their tournaments on a high, with wins respectively, and will be looking for a better run of fortune in our next tournament.
