Interclub Match vs Bullwinkle Chess Club
Bullwinkle came to The Gap with six players in a strong line-up that once again provided a stern challenge to The Gap.
All games were played at 60 minutes plus 10 second increments.
To allow for different fixtures from previous encounters, both teams slightly altered their board order from the ACF ratings list order.
Bullwinkle performed strongly on Boards 3 to 6, with their Gap CC opponents all stated they were outplayed after their games.
The Gap’s sole triumph was plucked from the fire, with Marcus down a bishop until his opponent attempted a quick mate and overlooked a check that resulted in gross loss of material, a decimation of his position and quick resignation.
Andrew Mather performed solidly in his game and had the better of a game agreed to a draw with queen + bishop and about three pawns each on the board at the end.

Flood Cup
Round 5 results:
Martin Laizans 1 Cameron De Vere 0 (on forfeit)

Round 6 result:
Cameron was unfortunately double booked attending a wedding in North Queensland, so Martin scooped the points and is now in a position he would barely have conceived of after his Round One debacle.
In other games, John struggles after arising from the opening with a poor pawn formation, with gaps exploited skillfully by Brian.
Peter and Nick were even on material and appeared to be having a close battle, but Nick played two poor moves, realising too late his oversight, which resulted in checkmate in the corner to a knight and queen attack.
The Round 7 permutations
Flood Cup: Only three players can now win: Tony, Sanat and Martin
If Tony beat Martin he wins the Flood Cup.
Any other result will see a play-off with Sanat, provided Sanat wins.
If Sanat draws or loses, the Flood Cup will be won by Tony if he avoids defeat to Martin.
Handicap Trophy: Only three players can now win: Martin, Peter and Stefan
If Martin beats Tony, he wins the Handicap Trophy
If Peter beats or draws with Andrew Mather and Martin loses, then Peter wins the Handicap Trophy
If Stefan beats Andrew Robinson and Martin and Peter loses, Stefan wins the Handicap Trophy
If all players lose, Martin wins the Handicap Trophy
