Lightning Tournament
The Lightning Tournament attracted 14 entries, the highest number of entries since the 1998 Lightning Tournament.
The high number of players necessitated 13 rounds, and with a late start due to administrative issues (collecting membership fees), and final round was not completed until 11:15pm.
Defending champion Andrew Mather was unable to compete due to school commitments, so it was expected Marcus Porter would now be the favourite. In the first half of the tournament played tonight Marcus didn’t disappoint, although he got off to a slow start by salvaging games from losing position against Cameron and Andrew. After this he only dropped a half point to Metin who was playing at the club for the first time. Metin specialises in Blitz play and was only a point away from Marcus at the end of the night with just a single loss to Martin.
All players came away with at least one win, including newcomers Tom Humphries and junior Adam Morris, whose older brother Joshua presently sits in third position.
There were no disputes, and all players co-operated well in completing a heavy schedule within the first night.
