The first game to finish tonight occurred when an early blunder by Warren which allowed his queen to be trapped handed Marcus a quick and easy win.
The most tense match-up was between Peter and Jim. Observers noted a few unexpected moves from both players which left the contest open until force of material resulted in a win to Peter.
Martin cramped up John’s position early on after a bad move at Move 4 saw John pressed back and eventually forfeit material, with Martin even managing a second queen as the end was nigh.
The two Round 1 games were both closer, Joshua playing well in his first competitive game at the club to give Andrew a good fight, while Tony did even better in beating Brian by incremental gain of material.
