The last of tonight’s five games to finish was the top board game in which Marcus had the ascendancy for much of it.
However he overlooked a deficiency in his pawn structure when the game reached a rook endgame, and had to force a draw by a repetition of moves.
Ray continued his resurgence, having now won three consecutive games after losing his first three in this tournament.
On a good night for players with the white pieces, Tony, Kieran and Brian also won.
