Round 2 results:

Andrew Mather 1 Warren Mayocchi 0

Marcus Porter 0 Tony Howes 1

Kieran Lyons 1 Martin Laizans 0

Andrew Robinson 1 Russell Lyons 0

John Ryland 0 George Flitcroft-Smith 1

Ray Adams 0 Brian Willcock 1

Andrew Mather overcame his opponent’s Hippo Defence with a Four Pawn attack which proved overwhelming.

Marcus succumbed to Tony after he tried to hold a pawn, and subsequently lost his queen in doing so.

This game was the first of the night to finish, and Marcus had earlier decided against a likely draw sequence at around Move 13.

Kieran held on with a small advantage to win her first game back at the club after a three year break.

The only game to finish after Kieran’s win was on Board 5 where John missed a few chances and George had a comfortable win in the end.

Russell Lyons played in a slightly unorthodox style, which saw a wild game with chances appearing to both players, until a sacrifice of the exchange saw Andrew smash through Russell’s defence and finish two pieces up.

Brian achieved a very early checkmate against Ray who made an error in his opening play which allowed Brian to deploy a lethal attack on Ray’s f2 square.
