Allegro Tournament

Results:

George Flitcroft-Smith 2 Jim Petrie 0

Andrew Robinson 2 John Ryland 0

George Flitcroft-Smith 1 Brian Willcock 1

Andrew Robinson 1 Marcus Porter 1

George had a 100% record for the night until his final game against Brian. This game must be close to being the longest Allegro game played at the club. Brian found himself in a position with a rook, knight and pawn against a rook. George continued to harass Brian’s position, fighting all the way. Brian made an illegal move and George claimed victory, however the time control for this tournament means it falls under Rapidplay rule and not Blitz. So two minutes was added to George’s time and the game continued to it final end, the spectators with baited breath watching as Brian narrowly avoided conceding a stalemate on several occasions.

Andrew won a very sharp first game against Marcus, but then bizarrely found himself two pieces by Move 8 in the second game, wildly miscalculating the Grob. Marcus soon after unnecessarily conceded a piece, but avoided further traps and won convincingly in the end.
