In addition to the players listed in the five games, George Flitcroft-Smith, Marcus Porter, James Hiller and Peter Hiller also attended tonight.
In a result that may have significance for the final outcome of the tournament, Andrew Mather overcame reigning Flood Cup champion Tony Howes to notch up an impressive victory.
Other games went to form, although Greg Colwell returning after a six month absence from the chessboard possibly let one slip in his game with Russell, losing to a blunder at the end (which caused wry amusement to both players).
