Allegro Tournament

Results:

Jim Petrie 1 John Ryland 1

Greg Colwell 1 Andrew Robinson 1

Brian Willcock 2 Greg Colwell 0

Greg showed having a break from chess is no hindrance with a stunning win over Andrew in their first game.

Greg almost forced checkmate, but to escape Andrew had to lose three pawns. He gained two pawns back in the endgame, but the lone pawn was enough to force a win for Greg with the white pieces. Andrew gained a crucial pawn advantage in the second game to even the overall score at 1-1.

In other games, John continued his recent improved form with a 1-1 result over Jim who was runner-up in this tournament in 2010.

Brian finished the night off with two good wins against Greg.

James’ failure to play any games to date, leaves nine players in the tournament.

Late news: Tony Howes withdrew on 2 Oct 2012 as he can’t make it to chess for the next four Fridays. As he played less than half his games, these will not count in the final crosstable.
