Andrew Mather v Andrew Robinson – postponed

Jim Petrie – BYE

Round Eight result:

Jim Petrie ½ Andrew Mather ½

Just two games played on a wet night which followed another wet week in an unseasonally wet Brisbane winter.

Martin and Brian had finished their game very early. Brian handed Martin a knight within the first 5 moves, but blundering a queen sealed an early resignation.

Jim and Andrew battled their way to a rook endgame. All the winning chances were with black, but Andrew’s time trouble led to him accepting Jim’s draw offer. The clock read ‘white 45 minutes, black 8 minutes’ when the draw was agreed.

James did not come to chess tonight, so John collected a free point. As well as the tournament games, two boards of social chess in the main room ensured everyone was entertained on the night.
