St David’s Day

Barbarian sneak past Welsh

Playing with a massive handicap advantage of 5.1 points the Barbarians managed to pip the Welsh, showing how important that extra tenth of a point was.

The tournament

Nathan scored a picket fence to win convincingly. The crucial game turned out to be in Round 3 where a monumental blunder caused Andrew to lose a queen and bishop for nothing, gifting Nathan the point.

The prize ceremony

Due to a scarcity of leeks, no doubt a side affect of the recent floods, the winner was presented with a tin of leeks. The Welsh have indeed come to hard times.

The Welsh flags were also absent this year, however a rousing Welsh National Anthem put everyone in the right mood. (Mood for what? A game of rugby!).

Quote of the night

“It’s not looking good for the Welsh” - Andrew

“The Welsh never look good” - Nathan

“I’m going to report you to …. “ - Brian

“It seems like a normal game” - Tony, who spoke too soon. Andrew sacrificed a bishop for three pawns that could not be stopped, especially after Tony gave away his remaining bishop in a mind blanking moment.
