Nathan’s summary of his game:

In my game with Tony I played the Sicilian and was met with the Grand Prix attack. There was some jostling for control of the centre and we both probably castled poorly. I castled kingside with a bad pawn structure and no pieces in front of my king and Tony castled long to put his king on a half open file occupied by my queen, which I soon doubled up with a rook. I think I gained a slight advantage in a complicated position, to which Tony responded by spectacularly sacrificing a rook for a pawn, then another rook for no material. The sacrifice sought to force a quick mate, but eventually ran out of puff as white was hampered a little by black's own mating threats on the c-file. However, I would not be surprised if analysis shows that best play could have given white a few more threats from the first sacrifice.

Cameron’s summary of his game:

The opening was poor for Gary who played 5... Qf8 to protect the g7 pawn with his king still uncastled and no developed pieces. Gary played well to hold his position into the middlegame with his undevelopment resulting in the prospect of a bad bishop v good knight middlegame. Cameron panicked in the face of a drawish edge and played some poor moves to keep life in the game giving Gary the edge. Gary missed some winning tactics while Cameron clock ticked down to 3 minutes against Garry's 35 minutes. Gary made some positional errors which resulted in a won pawn endgame for Cameron as his a c passed pawns were self defending.

Brian’s summary of his game:

Played between the two fastest players the game was over too quickly for analysis. Jim had the better of the opening and middle game but somewhat lost his way and was down in material going into the endgame. Brian’s skill came into its own here as he brilliantly threw away his advantages. Jim probably did not analyze his best chance of winning and, frustrated by his inability to mate with two Rooks on the seventh, offered the draw which was accepted.

The first game to finish was actually on Board 3. James felt generous enough to gift Kieran an early queen and an early knight.

Andrew was on top early on, but a knight sacrifice by Russell through the game wide open with mate threatening on an exposed king. However Russell overlooked a queen exchange and went another piece down, albeit with four pawns as compensation. Still a draw or even an unlikely win might have been salvageable with more accurate play at the end by Russell, in the last game to finish for the night (at 10:40pm).
