Allegro tournament
Results:
Andrew Robinson 1½ Ray Adams ½
Nathan Shaw 1 Ray Adams 1
Tony Howes 1 Greg Colwell 0 (one game played – Greg white)
Andrew Robinson 2 Mark Taylor 0
Eight of the nine entrants played games tonight.
In one game, Greg managed to beat Gary in what must surely have been the longest Allegro game ever played at the club. Greg ended up with a bishop and knight and took an age to checkmate (as most of us at the club would have) – certainly well in excess of 50 moves were required.
Tony and Mark both fell to unexpected checkmates to share the spoils. Tony mated James on the f7 square after about 7 moves in the first game, but James played more strongly in game two to hold the initiative at one stage with a roving queen until coming unstuck.
