Stuart Wilson Trophy

Round 8 result:

Kieran Lyons 1 Nathan Shaw 0

Round 9 result:

Greg Colwell 0 Tony Howes 1

Round 10 result:

Russell Lyons 0 Cameron De Vere 1

Kieran and Cameron both won, so the tournament will be decided by a play-off game on Friday 2 October (Kieran plays with white).

Russell lost tonight, so he requires a draw or better against Ray next Friday to win the Maiden Trophy. A loss next Friday will see him play Gary Sands in a play-off game.

Greg’s report on tonight’s action:

Ray and 6 combatants attended tonight for the 3 SW Trophy games.

Greg being white had an early attack but incorrect play allowed Tony a strong counter attack which decided the game in his favour.

Next to finish was Kieran with a kingside attack over the batted and bruised Nathan, sporting a black eye. We all feel Kieran probably hooked him but being gentleman we never saw a thing.

And Russell looked to perhaps have the better of an interesting position against Cameron but made a critical pawn move in error which trapped his queen, eventually leaving Cameron with a Rook against pawns endgame and a win.
