Results:

Brian Willcock v Ray Adams – postponed

Kieran Lyons v Mark Taylor – postponed

Andrew Robinson 0 Greg Colwell 1

Russell Lyons v James Hiller – postponed

Gary Sands 1 Nathan Shaw 0

Two games saw two upsets tonight.

Andrew had a bishop protecting an isolated pawn and it took Greg a long time until he was finally able to exploit this weakness and gain a vital pawn advantage. After this Greg played solidly and faultlessly to achieve one of his best victories at the club and end Andrew’s 21 game unbeaten streak (albeit including 14 draws).

The other game provided a bigger surprise, especially after Nathan had accumulated a three pawn advantage. Then Nathan somehow contrived to lose a queen for a rook and was always struggling after this point.
