Flood Cup

Round 2 results:

Brian Willcock 1 Greg Colwell 0 (played March 20)

Mark Taylor 1 James Hiller 0

Ray Adams 1 Nathan Shaw 0 (played March 20)

Kieran Lyons 1 Gary Sands 0 (played March 20)

Andrew Robinson ½ Russell Lyons ½ (played March 20)

Only one game was played tonight, with Mark finally coming out on top in a surprisingly close game. Mark had managed to win a minor piece, and then by gaining the exchange he was a full rook ahead. James had the inadequate compensation of active pieces, but solid defending would allow James to make little of this. But then Mark lost sight of his bishop on a5 which was captured for nothing my James’ rampaging queen. After this Mark had to ground out a win, and expressed a very loud sigh of relief when this was accomplished. James was driven to the venue by Ray who had earlier been providing coaching at his house, which was perhaps responsible for James’ improved showing.
