Flood Cup

Round 1 results:

Andrew Robinson 1 Brian Willcock 0 (played March 13)

Russell Lyons 0 Kieran Lyons 1 (played March 17)

Gary Sands 0 Ray Adams 1 (played March 6)

Nathan Shaw 1 Mark Taylor 0 (played March 6)

James Hiller 0 Greg Colwell 1 (played March 6)

Matthew Cooper and Brendan Griffen announced their withdrawals and with the removal of Peter Hiller the tournament was left with ten players. With no dissention among entrants, the tournament format was changed from Swiss to Round-robin.

Just one game was played on the night, and one spectator to watch it on one of the most poorly attended nights in The Gap CC history.

In the game played, at a crucial point in the middle game Andrew decided to take two pawns in exchange for a poor (but not irretrievable) pawn formation and conceding more active rooks to black. From this point the result of the game was decided by the more accurate endgame play, with Brian fighting it out in the style of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd to the bitter end.

Russell also succumbed on move 21 to Kieran in a game played on March 17.
