Lightning Tournament
The tournament was shaken up when news came through that Brendan would not be participating tonight. Having to choose between “the dame and the game”, he chose the former over the latter thus throwing the tournament wide open to five equal leaders. There was a minor questioning of the decision to retain Brendan’s first week points, but a precedent was set last year when a similar situation occurred. Garvin later checked the FIDE handbook http://www.fide.com/fide/handbook?id=20&view=category (Rule 11: Where not all games are played) which confirmed this decision.
The tournament itself was decided by the final game between Andrew and Cameron which was drawn. Andrew achieved revenge against Nathan for last week’s thumping which was just as well, because a Shaw win in this game would have resulted in a four way tie for first.
