Report – 30 January 2009

Lightning Tournament

Brendan won all of his games except the one against Andrew which he lost convincingly, and conceded a draw against Nathan. With a chasing pack of five players on seven points taking points off each other, Brendan is the obvious favourite going into week two. Andrew won his first seven games, but lost his last three to slip back into the field. There were no situations requiring the arbiter, although there were a few hectic time scrambles with the five minute guillotine finish.

Nathan’s report:

Can't remember too well, but here goes…

 - lost my game to the new guy when I opened up my kingside and had a crack at a quick pawn storm. Unfortunately his knights and bishops were a bit too well positioned and he forked me up good.

 - Even though I forewarned her, my off the board intimidatory tactics were a bit too much for Kieran so I got to notch up a rare genuine win.

 - Andrew played rubbish as usual and got what he deserved.

 - Brendan was winning but took his time. His clock ran out when he had a king and wing pawn with my king in front, so a draw was fair enough anyway.

- Cameron had a winning position against me but an impossible 3 seconds left when I made two illegal moves in a row - he claimed the win on the second one.

- Had enormous material advantage over Peter in the last game, but he spotted a repetition that I erroneously thought I could break so we had to share the point.

- can't remember the others very well but the crosstable says I won them, so I won't argue.
