Kieran started well in the Allegro tournament, clean-sweeping Mark, and then getting the better of Andrew in a match-up that saw last year’s first play second place getters in action. Against Andrew, Kieran ground out an inevitable victory with white after catching a central pawn with her attack better co-ordinated. The second game ended in a draw with opposite coloured bishops.
It was a good night all round for the Lyons family with Russell taking a win and a draw off Greg.

Maiden Trophy play-off:
Nathan Shaw 1 Brendan Griffen 0 (on forfeit)
Peter pressed early but a single move set back his cause and John won well with his slow methodical play. This meant that after a great start of two points from two games, Peter unfortunately finished the tournament on two points.
Brendan declined the opportunity to contest the Maiden Trophy play-off match, so all of the glory does to Nathan (who feels justified in collecting it due to his better tie-break).
