45 Minute Tournament

Results:

Brian Willcock 0 Russell Lyons 1

Kieran Lyons 1 Ray Adams 0

Nathan Shaw 1 Ray Adams 0

Brian resigned after he touched his queen not realising that Russell’s bishop had checked his king, and his queen had a suicidal legal move to block the check.

Kieran beat Ray in a fairly complicated game, while Nathan managed to get an important pawn advantage in a pawn endgame. This win means Nathan should win Group B and enter a play-off with Group A winner Andrew.

45 Minute Tournament 2007 in detail

Junior Knights Tournament

Five players entered the junior tournament held tonight. Time controls were 10 min/10 sec however most games finished within ten minutes of the start. The extreme seriousness with which the players competed is revealed by the fact that at least three games were decided on Scholar’s Mate (no names!).

Quote of the night

“Are we allowed to en passant” – BJ, seeking directions from the arbiter during the junior tournament

“Now I feel bad” – Nathan expressing regrets over the outcome of his game with Kieran

“I told you what to do with her and you never listened to me” – Cameron giving Nathan a serve (Note: on opening technique, not gentlemanly conduct).
