Tony won a very interesting and dynamic game with Garvin to move to the top of the standing jointly with Cameron who beat Ray. Tony’s ended up with a queen and many pawns against a queen and a bishop. Prior to this he was a piece down but with two very advanced pawns and a rampant queen.
Andrew gained the exchange advantage early and was able to hold onto this for a win, although the game was far from straightforward and Ernie had several opportunities, only some of which he took. Ernie thought he was good for a draw near the end but was not able to stop Andrew’s final pawn with a knight.
Greg played well to gain a draw against Alex, the highest rated opponent he has played and not lost to. Brian won against Mark to join the group of players on two points while John Roper beat his namesake to climb off the bottom of the table.
