It is still very early days in the lightning tournament with players having until 26 January to enter, as has been customary at this club for this tournament. Six of the ten players in attendance indicated their intention to play in the tournament – Ray and Cameron abstained (Ray as usual equating lightning chess with all the plagues of Ancient Egypt), while new players Mark Borrill and John Roper (attendees of the Brisbane Club) are yet to confirm.

Early games were played and ran to form. Brian achieved some measure of revenge when he achieved his own whitewash against James who had perhaps skited too much about the 5-0 Ashes drubbing that was formally achieved in this morning’s session at the SCG.

Tonight was a historic night in that it saw the very first games of the Odd Knights Tournament. With the clock on 8 o’clock and no one available for lightning games, Tom and Andrew played the first game, but Cameron and Ray commencing shortly afterwards. Later in the night new-to-the-club Mark Borrill played Peter in the only game of the night that saw players get down to the last five minutes of their time.
