Tonight was the last night of competition in the Allegro and congratulations go to all 12 players who managed to complete all their fixtures.
Tony had the most arduous night completing four sets of two games. In the end he fell a mere half point short of gaining second place. He lost to Cameron in the first game of the night but evened it up in game two. The critical games with Andrew followed the same pattern, although both were decided on flagfall, albeit the losers were behind on the board at the time their time ran out. Tony then rounded off his evening by beating Tim and Ray. In one of the games with Ray, Tony almost lost on time when Ray made a strange move and Tony hesitated trying to work it out (it turned out that Ray had blundered).
Cameron beat Andrew in the first of their games in which there were several stages of the game until Cameron prevailed. Andrew won the second when Cameron let his flag fall while under pressure.
The fight for the wooden spoon was tight and complex. Tim won twice against Greg to ensure that he would not win this unwanted prize. Then Greg was in danger until he managed to share the points with Mark – this was the first time in six years that players had drawn both games in the Allegro, the last time being the Andrew Robinson – Sam Constantin match of 2000.

The ingloriously named 45 Minute Tournament kicked off tonight with four Group A games being played among players who tonight have no Allegro Tournament commitments. The most keenly contested game saw Ellis pip Shane. Laura played her first tournament games, enjoyed the experience, and vowed to win at least one game in this tournament. Brian maintained his steamrolling progress winning twice.
Groups were decided by rating. Group A had players 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, while Group B is made up of 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15.
