Allegro Tournament

Results:

Andrew Robinson 2 Tim Johnson 0

Ray Adams 2 Cameron De Vere 0

Brian Thomas 2 Kieran Lyons 0

Russell Lyons 1½ Ray Adams ½

Cameron De Vere 1 Mark Taylor 1

Tim Johnson 0 John Curran 1 (One game only played)

Five and a half sets of games were played tonight. The major upset was Russell overcoming Ray 1.5-0.5, however Russell has showed that he is no slouch in previous games and this result was deserved.

New player Lara came to the club for the first time tonight and played impressively for one who has mainly played on the internet and had little over-the-board experience. Even playing a full-strength Ray late in the evening (one club member had the temerity to suggest that Ray shouldn’t be playing full-strength, and was firmly rebutted), Lara was able to play a solid game that tested her opponent.

Brian Willcock (with his “H” badge) came to the club for the first time since his sojourn in Chelmsford and rattled off the usual excuses about being rusty etc before played some of the chess that he is noted for.
