Many two nil results occurred tonight. None were big upsets, although Phil had two good wins against Ray, and Marty can consider himself unlucky to lose the second game against Andrew when rook versus bishop in a relatively simple endgame.

Debbie scored a win against Andrew in game one of their fixture with white. The game reached a complex situation with all the pieces on the board and Debbie was able to press her advantage and played well in the endgame to stake herself out as a real contender to win this tournament.

Harvey and Mick both grabbed draws in the second games of their fixtures with Phil and Debbie respectively. Stuart managed his first win of the tournament, after coming close many times, in game two against Tim.

James debuted tonight but failed to trouble the scorers, the layoff not improving his form at the crease.

Quote of the night

“You know, you can checkmate with a rook and bishop. Come on… do it!” – James, during one of his game with Marty

“And he was chewing gum all through the game, just like a cow…” – anon.
