Tonight we moved to our new rooms in B block – Rooms B4, B5 & B6. On first glance these rooms appear to be an improvement or at least the equal of our previous rooms in D block which were renovated and are now unsuitable for chess. Marty, Debbie and Stuart visited the rooms on Wednesday night with the intention of moving equipment into the cupboards from Stuart’s car – unfortunately the school had still not moved the cupboards from D block, so this task was done at the start of Friday night.
Tonight only two of the three rooms were opened to avoid ’freaking’ Marty out. He reported that he had had a serious nightmare after Wednesday night in which he opened the third door and a stream of zombies came out intent on destroying civilisation (which was saved by Marty’s zapper gun). A case of too many video games?

Garvin Gray 1 Ray Adams 0
Marty Chadwick 0 Andrew Robinson 1
Brian Willcock 1 Shane Martin 0
Harvey Quaresmini 1 Mark Taylor 0

Gabriel Boross ½ point bye
The battle on board one ended prematurely when Debbie succumbed to Phil’s pressure and conceded a three move mate. However, Phil said at the end of the game that Debbie had given him his hardest game so far in this Flood Cup. Tony gained a few pawn’s advantage early on and held on for a comfortable win.
The upset of the night was provided by Garvin Gray who won from a sharp position against Ray. The longest game of the night (it took over 4 hours and finished past midnight) saw Marty unlucky not to scrape a draw in a game that swayed in advantage several times. Brian’s game with Shane also lasted late into the night, with a massive time advantage to Brian finally pressuring Shane into conceding the advantage held in the middle game. Harvey and Mark looked headed to a close endgame with queens and rooks on the board and Mark up a pawn until Harvey pin Mark’s queen with a rook.
James and Stuart will play next week to complete the round.
