Report – 26 November 2004

Allegro tournament

The tournament finished in the most anti-climactic way with Peter Hiller not showing up and thus forfeiting his remaining games. This handed Andrew the Allegro tournament, and by virtue of his finishing ahead of George, the BAR Trophy. Next year the tournament will have rounds and dates for each fixture (as occurred in last year’s Allegro). This should lead to earlier attention to those players who don’t play their games, thus leaving their opponents in limbo.

Luthien played well in her games against Stuart to surge to a final fourth place in the tournament.

John was obviously pleased with his performance. After the final table was announced at the end of the night, he whispered rather reverentially: “Did I really finish above Brian Willcock?”

Results:

Harvey 0 Stuart H 1 (One game only was played. The other game was awarded to Stuart H on forfeit)

Luthien 2 Stuart H 0

Harvey 1 James 0 (making it 2-0)

James 0 John 1 (making it 2-0)

Ray 2 James 0

Luthien 2 Harvey 0 (on forfeit)

All unplayed games involving Peter Hiller (6 opponents) & James Hiller (3 opponents) were awarded to as 2-0 forfeits.

Quote of the night

“Did I really finish above Brian Willcock?” – John Curran

“I’ll give myself a C+” – James writing his own review for his performance in the Allegro tournament

“If he’s gonna be C+, who’s gonna be D?” – Upon seeing the final tournament table which showed that James had a donut collection to make Homer Simpson blush, this harsh judgment came from across the Sea of Japan

“I don’t think any of the Australian Idol contestants from this year could hold a candle to last year’s Australian Idol contestants. Paulini and Guy Sebastian, now they were giants of the genre” - James
