One Hour tournament

Round 13 results:
George Flitcroft-Smith 1 Andrew Robinson 0

Stuart Holt 1 Peter Hiller 0

James Hiller 0 Tony Howes 1

George Flitcroft-Smith won the One Hour tournament and thus the One Hour title for the first time since 1988. This breaks a long sequence of second and third places achieved in The Gap’s major tournaments since 2002. His final game required a win and he achieved this in a game that he dominated. After the game he said that he thought both players had played very well. Andrew’s eleventh move (Na5) seemed innocuous enough at the time, but was the root of all the trouble to come that saw him on the back foot for the rest of the game.

The other games saw Tony win as expected against James to secure second place, while Stuart beat Peter to keep himself in the running for the Maiden Trophy.
