Round 5 result:
Stuart Wilson 0 George Flitcroft-Smith 1
Round 6 result:
James Hiller 0 Marty Chadwick 1
Just two catch up games tonight. George and Marty won comfortably in the end, although George regretted not taking a piece early on in search of a more pleasing way to win. Marty took 15 to 20 minutes to make a move (at about move 10) leading his opponent James to ask “Any chance of making a move?”.
Harvey has advised that he will have to withdraw from the tournament as he is unable to attend the club over the coming weeks. As a result all fixtures involving him are now void, his games are removed from the current standings below, and these games will not appear in the final tournament crosstable.
Outside of competition play Joe showed us that he still loves us by coming back to the club again this week. He played Debbie at first while John played Andrew. Then a swap and Andrew took an early 3-1 lead against Joe (in lightning games of course!). Joe then won 3 games in a row before Andrew levelled it at 4-4. After this Andrew played like Richmond FC in the AFL and had a huge second half fade out so that the tally ended 9-5 in Joe’s favour.
George then took on Joe and won the second game by forcing Joe to move a touched piece (Joe generally doesn’t play touch move unless this is stated beforehand!). Joe got revenge winning the next 5 games to end 6-1 up, even winning the final one that George said he couldn’t (George recklessly stated this at a time when he had Joe in a desperately poor position).

Quote of the night
“Any chance of making a move?” – James to Marty after waiting 15 minutes for Marty’s next move.
“And that really puts the pudding on the icing” – Joe Tarnawski mis-stating the obvious after making a winning move against Andrew.
“If you wanna play touch move we’ll play touch move. But don’t forget to move it” – Joe to George after being advised that the touch move rule will be enforced.
“Can I go there (pronounce ‘dare’)? Can I go there? – Joe pointing to squares on the board as he is about to make a move.
“You get a running commentary when you play Joe” – George.
“Of course you can Joe, you can do anything you like” – Joe, about to launch into a speculative attack.
