Annual General Meeting
Highlights of the meeting include:
· the election of a new secretary, Debbie Jenkins
· the change to Flood Cup time controls: now 80 min + 1 min/move
· the change to Allegro time controls: now 10 min + 10 sec/move
· the retention of traditional 5 minute guillotine time controls for the Lightning
· the club’s decision not to run the Gap Open in 2004 and to therefore advise the CAQ that we do not intend to retain the Queen’s Birthday weekend
· the decision to back Brian’s efforts to establish a tournament to celebrate St David’s Day in honour of the great Welsh influence presently being felt at the club.
The club calendar for 2004 will be altered to accommodate the revised time controls and to allow the St David’s Day tournament to be held as close as possible to 1 March.
After discussions between Brian and a sub-committee of the committee (comprising of one self-appointed individual), it was decided that the 2004 St David’s Day tournament will have the following format:
· All games to be played on one day (in 2004 this will be February 27)
· Time controls to be 3 minutes plus 2 sec/move (in honour of a failed motion at the AGM)
· Players to receive a points handicap at the start. For example, in a ten player tournament the strongest player will start on 0 points, a mid-rated player on 2.5 points and the lowest rated player on 5 points. or thereabouts, depending on the mood of the DOP and the influence of sub-continental bookmakers…
