Brian once again showed his unpredictability and why he is such a dangerous opponent by being only the second player in the tournament to take a win off Tony.
Following threats of legal action, the following letter to the editor is published in full:
“Had to retain James again. You imply on the website that I did not bother to bore you with chess reports. As you will discover if you look at our exchanges I did report on the 11/14 events, including James’s victory – though naturally I considered my games of more absorbing interest. I now take the opportunity of reporting on my games of 11/21: I decided to blitz Marty in our first allegro game. Alas he remained unflustered and calmly and at leisure took advantage of my hyper lightning moves and with the conviction I was deliberately throwing the game.
Last night saw me take a game off Tony after he took the dreaded poisoned pawn and delayed too long in extricating his Queen. There was a wonderful quote of the night from Peter in which he likened himself to Nostradamus (Ray had asked him the source of some of his inspired moves and the Seer of The Gap answered that he visualized the board and somehow involved the Frog). Sorry I can’t give you the necessary details but you had to be there.”
Four match-ups remained unplayed after tonight with 3 being awarded to opponents of James (Marty, Debbie & Tony), while the John v Simon fixture was awarded to John who attended every night of the tournament.

Junior club championship
This year’s tournament attracted a disappointing entry of six players. Ben Lazarus was several classes above the rest of the field and won every game to have his name engraved on the trophy for a fifth time. <Full Results>
