Allegro tournament

Tony 1 Andrew 1

Brian 1½ Debbie ½

Andrew 2 Marty 0

Tony 2 Debbie 0

Tony won the first game against Andrew with white after Andrew looked like he might have scored a piece in the middle game (the old pinned knight on d4 in the Sicilian). But Tony only conceded a pawn and managed to make the most of a better position. In the second game Tony had 5 pawns to 4 in the endgame but Andrew played accurately and made the most of a time advantage and a nasty zugszwang to win.

The results of other games went to form, although the pattern of play didn’t always. Marty severely tested Andrew in game one before one silly move saw the whole game collapse. Brian showed the advantage of his opening studies together with his preference for this time control in his games against Debbie. With Debbie’s confidence shattered by Brian, she was easy pickings for Tony.

Quote of the night:

“I hate fast chess”

– Debbie Jenkins. If she didn’t say it, she certainly wanted to!
