Only one game was played tonight and not one likely to decide the final outcome of the Flood Cup. But it was certainly one of the most ferociously contested. James motivated himself while driving to the club’s venue by listening to the theme from Rocky and reading Michael Bevan’s autobiography. Mike just relied on life threateningly high levels of nicotine in his bloodstream. The final outcome maintained James’ unequalled record in club chess (worldwide?), but he also showed signs of hope for the future. For Mike, congratulations on his first victory and may it be the first of many (but no more poems about the Sydney Mardi Gras please!).

Transfer News
For the first time in months there was some transfer with George taking transfer novice Mike under his wing to take on Andrew and James. Of the seven games George and Mike only managed to win the second when James forgot that he is supposed to pass his captured pieces to his partner. Other than that experience triumphed on the night, including a moment of sweet revenge for James when he checkmated Mike.
