Doug played splendidly in the first game to defeat George is a game where queens were still on the board in the endgame, but Doug had a knight and pawn advantage. Doug's exertions against George seemed to wear him out for the considerably easier fixture against Brian. Brian then tumbled to George although there was an unintentional illegal move by George in one of the games that counted against Brian. Harvey accounted for John who had just come off a loss in the Maiden play-off.
