Allegro Tournament 2001

Results:

Chris Yu 2 Andrew Robinson 0 (result adjusted to 1-0, see below)

Chris Yu 2 Peter Hiller 0

Michael Hussey ½ Peter Hiller ½

Chris Yu 1 Michael Hussey 0

The second game of the Yu-Robinson contest ended in controversy. While in a thoroughly winning position, Chris Yu was in time trouble. Repeated warnings relating to displaced pieces and clock violations were unheeded, and so the game ended in uproar and was unfinished. After consideration, the game was awarded to Chris. However article 13.4 of the Laws of Chess (2001) was invoked, due to persistent breaches of articles 7.3 (displaced pieces), 6.8 (use of chessclock) and 3.7 (pawn promotion). Article 13.4 lists various penalties that can be applied by the arbiter and it was decided that the following was most appropriate to this case: "reducing the points scored in a game by the offending party".

Patrick Tao will not be competing in this event, so all players will now need to complete 14 games only.
