Allegro Tournament 2001

Results:

Sets of games played tonight (2 games per fixture):

Andrew Robinson 1 Gabriel Boross 1

Andrew Robinson 2 Michael Hussey 0

Gabriel Boross 1 Brian Willcock 1

Harvey Quaresmini 1 Doug Foster 1

Harvey Quaresmini 1½ Peter Hiller ½

Brian Willcock 2 Michael Hussey 0

Gabriel Boross gave away a mate in one (mate was on in the corner, knight + queen on the diagonal, for 2 moves!) against Andrew Robinson but recovered to win the second game, games going with the white pieces. Later he confronted his nemesis Brian Willcock, and things seemed to be following the familiar pattern in game one, but again Gabby recovered in game 2 to halve the points. Queensland Veterans Champion, Harvey Quaresmini lost to Doug Foster in game one but came back in the second game. Then, against Peter Hiller, Harvey seemed to be cruising to the expected 2-0 result when he stalemated his opponent with a queen, bishop + pawns covering the board. Harvey said something about giving blood and feeling exhausted – his opponents will be lining up next time they see the donor’s sticker on his jumper! Other fixtures went to form with Michael looking forward to some of the easier fixtures left on his programme.
