Queensland Chess 1968
There was no mention of The Gap Chess Club in the 1966 to 1968 editions of Chess in Australia.
However, as there were also no articles on the Singer Cup, it is still quite possible that The Gap Chess Club existed at this time.
The following articles appeared in Chess in Australia (September 1968, page 110).
CITY OF BRISBANE CHAMPIONSHIPS
At the finish of the City of Brisbane Championship, John Myers led Max Salm by ½ point to win the title.
Salm was unexpectedly beaten by Ian Gillies, which was his only loss, and he also conceded a draw to C.H. Lucovich.
Myers lost to Salm and won the rest.
Full results: J. Myers 8; M Salm 7½; I. Gillies 6½; C. Lucovich 5½; A. Vilums 5; M. Dyer 4½; I. Case 4; M. Craven 3.
The B Section of this event provided good tournament practice for some of our juniors and was won by J. Watson of Sunnybank High School.
Mrs. Zile tied with J. Hackett, the Qld Junior Champion 1967 for second place.
Results: J. Watson 6½; Mrs. Zile & J. Hackett 5; G. Ingram 4; D. Richardson & G. Grassie 3½; A. Schonheimer, D.J. Lewis & M. Grieco 3; J. Mott 1½.
QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONSHIP
The Queensland Championship started on August 10 with an entry of 18.
The ‘bus and tram strike, still on after a week, failed to deter a good entry.
INTER-CLUB CORRESPONDENCE LEAGUE
To partly
overcome the difficulty of arranging matches and tournaments in this large yet
sparsely populated State,

the C.A.Q. has started an Inter-Club Correspondence League.
Eight clubs have entered, divided as follows:
Division A: Brisbane, B.P.C.C., Peninsula (Redcliffe), Southport
Division B: Toowoomba, Townsville, Yeppoon, Longreach
