Until 2007, the tournament was referred to as the Queensland Lightning Championship and the time control was 5 minutes per player.
Since 2008, the tournament has mostly (but not always) been called the Queensland Blitz Championship with a time control of 3 minutes plus 2 second (Fischer increment) per player.
