Phoenix Trophy 1993-1996
The Gap participated in the Phoenix Trophy competitions from 1993 to 1996. Doug Foster was the driving force behind this competition which was modeled on, and sought to emulate the Singer Cup of the 1970s and early 1980s.
The Gap entered an A grade team and two C grade teams in 1994. Half way through, The Gap realised it had over extended itself and withdrew the A grade team and combined the C grade team into a single team (which ended up winning the C Grade competition!).
The Gap entered two B grade teams in 1996. This was to be the final year of the Phoenix Trophy in its traditional format of 4 per team, with teams playing home and away round-robin. In 1997 teams comprised just two players and the tournament continued for a few more years, but never in the grand format of former days.
