Handicap Lightning – Prize Night for 1993

18 June 1994

RESULTS UNKNOWN

The format for this year was a quixotic one that Doug Foster devised. Players started with a handicap and this increased or decreased after each game depending a player’s results. Also, rather than a round-robin, there was a Swiss system of sorts, although players had to work this out themselves! After a few games this became quite complicated with players forgetting their handicap (intentionally or otherwise!), not understanding the system, or not being able to determine their next opponent. In the end the result was a bit of a farce.

However, it is believed that Phillip Kirkman won this year’s tournament although there is no surviving evidence that attests to this.
