Report – 5 February 2016

Lightning Tournament

Andrew Mather became club lightning champion for a third time after a clean sweep of his opponents in the second half of competition.

Only Joshua and Tony Morris came close to challenging him, but these two players ended up in a dog-fight for second place, the rest of the field well behind them.

Players finishing in places 4 to 9 were all fairly closely matched in their results, with Nathan Shaw claiming a creditable fourth position after a five year absence from the chess scene.

Theodora also did well in her first tournament at the club and displayed a good knowledge of all the standard openings.

Gary Sands crashed after a strong performance in week one and went from 9.0/11 to 13.5/25.

Thomas Johnston joined the tournament for the second night after moving up from the ACT, and impressed to score 9 wins from 14 games.

Brian Willcock arrived after Round 13 from last week’s fixtures was played and joined the tournament for the second half only.
