Tonight’s games saw Andrew Mather remain unbeaten and race to the top of the leader board.

Many match-up ended predictably, but there were a couple of exceptions.

Shane and Andrew’s first game was very even and although Andrew had a small edge, a draw was still the most likely outcome when it was agreed (knight plus two pawns each, Andrew’s kink and knight slightly better positioned).

In the second game, Andrew blundered a rook, so Shane coasted to a slow but inevitable win.

Tony won both games against higher rated Metin, to achieve two points to lift him up the standings.

Metin tried the Polish Opening (1. b4) in the first game against Andrew Mather and was holding his own until the end. In fact, Andrew was just about to lose a piece to a blunder when Metin’s flag fell.

The second game also went Andrew’s way, maintaining his 100% record in the tournament so far.
