Martin won the first game of the set against Andrew in a tight pawn endgame where his superior king position garnered a winning advantage.

The second game was virtually decided when Martin conceded a crucial central pawn in the middle game and resigned after Andrew’s forces aligned to push home a decisive advantage.

Andrew Mather won both games against a tricky opponent to retain his 100% record.

Joe Curtain lost twice to Joshua who excels at this time control, but gained some satisfaction by sharing the spoils with Martin in the later fixture.

James was hoping to improve his standing but succumbed twice to improving junior Adam Morris.
