John Ryland v Brian Willcock – postponed to May 1

Tony Morris’ win over Ray Adams was the final game to finish at 11:15pm, with Sanat Kunwar’s two rooks surviving against Andrew Mather roving queen in the other late finish.

Marcus had a won endgame against Tony with two rooks apiece and his rooks grabbing a pawn and breaking through.

Tony tried a desperate ploy abandoning the defence of king and manoeuvring his rooks to the back rank behind Marcus’ king.

Tony checked Marcus’ king and Marcus made an impulse move. The wrong one!

Marcus had three choices, one would have won, another Tony could have forced a draw by perpetual check, … and Marcus chose ‘option C’.

A lucky escape for Tony, which means the leaders’ board is bunched up, with seven players remaining in serious contention.

Metin also won against Joshua, to keep himself in the leadership bunch, while Stefan won to improve his chances of winning the Handicap Trophy component of this tournament.
