Five of six scheduled games were played tonight.

Previously unbeaten Martin lost to Brian in an interesting game, with Brian’s unorthodox attacking play once again gaining him an unexpected win.

Brian sacrificed a knight for two pawns and some positional advantage early on. Later, Martin had the choice between returning the knight of trying to hold Brian’s dominant pawns.

In the end, Brian’s pawns proved unstoppable and won the day.

The last game of the night to be decided was completed just after 10pm, with Warren providing stiff opposition to his opponent.

The endgame saw Warren with a rook and knight against a rook and a defensively positioned bishop.

Andrew managed to move his rook into a position where it was almost trapped, but eventually able to obtain a pawn, and then the knight fell to a blunder.

Andrew Mather was a piece up early when John became overly ambitious with a kingside knight.

Later, a blunder with white allowed John to gain a piece back, however by this time Andrew had a couple of advanced pawns which proved decisive.
